as someone whose family has an empty chair during the holidays, this situation hits home.

This was well written. This really hits home as he was, at least formerly, a member of a conservative, reformed church closely associated with mine. Makes me feel a little sick.

Interesting to note, too, that prosecutors have released photos in their court filings of Allen taking selfies before the attack, all kitted out with his weapons. To my mind, that indicates that not only had he carved out a fairly large exemption from the command to turn the other cheek, he found sufficient room there to glorify the violence he had in mind. I don’t think any of the arguments he mounts are sincere. They’re rote mantras of rationalization.

He sounds absolutely insufferable straight out the gate and when he rationalized “going through” anyone who was there, the fullness of his insanity is on display for anyone who can see it, actually 🫣.

I’m not a Trump supporter at all ftr. I just can’t stand what our stupid political environment has done to people and it feels like so many have truly lost it.

This was excellent, thank you for writing it. We live in such a strange hour. I am disoriented sometimes by the strident views righteously pronounced by those with whom I thought I shared a biblical faith. But these two "faiths" are not the same...

“As a Christian,” Allen should have done unto others … but he didn’t.

Allen declared himself “god,” with the power to preserve or destroy that which displeased him. In a word, Trump.

Sure, sure, sure, he had a great deal of help. We would all laugh at the idea of a little devil sitting on Allen’s shoulder and persuading him to evil.

But the truth is a sobering parody of that idea: Voices, voices, everywhere but nary enough time to stop and think.

Cole thought becoming a monster was the right answer. And in his world of constantly screeching Voices, monsters fit right in.

I think I will stick to street-smart and self learn by doing.

What strikes me is the myopic conclusion isn’t coherent to the rest of the piece. “The pattern isn't symmetrical, and pretending it is has become its own kind of dishonesty.”

The same dishonesty ignores the same violence both encouraged and happening, also in the name of supposed Christianity, on January 6, in detention centers, carried out by ICE against citizens and immigrants alike…

It’s all unacceptable.

I blame Corey Booker and his call for foot soldiers. Could be an imprisonable offense. Certainly he needs to be ousted from Congress. Plus the Dims still have no plan, no policies, no nothing.
