In the midst of my research for a project that I have teased but am still keeping secret, I stumbled upon this fascinating 2022 New Yorker article, The Untold History of the Biden Family. This isnβt what you think. Itβs not about the Biden family today, where Joe Biden is the patriarch of the family. This is about the previous generation of the Bidens that influenced Joseph R Biden to be who he is today.
In this report, we learn more about the life of Joseph Biden, Sr., and how his struggles with money, class, and alcohol influenced his son and his grandchildren. It is a portrait of the Biden family that is not discussed and, I would argue, has been attempted to be erased or, at a minimum, rebranded.
The article tells the story of Joeseph Biden, Sr., playing a game of βkeeping up with the Joneses,β eventually becoming one of the Joneses, to inevitably lose due to what I perceive as insecurities and a lack of discipline. It is a telling portrayal that gives more insight into the mind of the president and what drives him.
