Weekending
I have recently been revisiting 90s action flicks. Iβm not sure if itβs nostalgia or if the 90s truly had some amazing movies, but I freaking love them. We typically will go to church on Saturday evenings, leaving our Sundays for sleeping in, and itβs become a new habit for me to turn on a 90s action flick while I get things done around the house.
I love these movies because they are just plain fun without trying to push an agenda or at least not an obvious agenda. If you want an entertaining, slightly mindless, and relaxing evening, here are a few great 90s action movies worth checking out.
A fun and thrilling sci-fi action flick with all of the incredibly realistic special effects you can expect from a 90s sci-fi movie. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays this guy named Douglas Quaid who's bored with his regular life and wants a change. So he gets this super advanced tech that puts fake memories in his head and heads off to Mars. And let me tell you, the movie is full of action, surprises, mutants, and even some humor. Oh, and did I mention Sharon Stone does a killer high kick while in a black leotard with a hot pink tube top, so 90s. The movie is a wild ride where you can't always tell what's real and what's not. But that's what makes it so cool!
Here's a classic 90s sci-fi flick that's sure to amuse. Sylvester Stallone stars as John Spartan, a brave cop from the past who finds himself frozen in time. He's thawed out in the year 2032 and has to adjust to the utopian society he's now living in. Only one restaurant survived the restaurant wars, and you wonβt believe it, but itβs Taco Bell. Along the way, he teams up with his partner Lenina Huxley (played by Sandra Bullock), to take down a dangerous villain named Simon Phoenix (played by Wesley Snipes). With plenty of action, clever dialogue, and unexpected twists, Demolition Man is an exciting adventure that's sure to make you laugh, cheer, and maybe even wish you could take a ride into the future.
If you want to learn some great 90s spycraft, then you gotta check out "Enemy of the State." Will Smith plays this super smart lawyer who accidentally gets tangled up in a really intense game of cat-and-mouse. And let's just say the stakes are pretty high. With the help of Gene Hackman, Smith has to navigate through all kinds of government surveillance and figure out who he can trust. It's got some crazy action scenes, some seriously clever twists, and some characters you won't forget. It's definitely a wild ride, but it's a good reminder that even one person can make a difference and stand up for what's right, no matter what.
The Long Kiss Goodnight (R | 1996)
First off, Samuel L Jackson is in this one, and the f-bomb schtick in this one is strong. This movie is a wild ride starring Gena Davis, suffering from amnesia, who embarks on an epic adventure to uncover her forgotten past. Teaming up with Samuel L. Jackson, a tough-talking private investigator, they unravel a web of intrigue, secrets, and unexpected twists while discovering her hidden talents. With thrilling action, witty banter, and a dash of humor, A Long Kiss Goodnight delivers an exhilarating rollercoaster of a movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat and leave you cheering for its fearless heroine."
In the exhilarating action film "Face Off," two fierce adversaries, an FBI agent, and a cunning terrorist, find themselves entangled in a high-stakes battle of wits. As their relentless pursuit unfolds, an unprecedented twist of fate forces them to literally switch faces, resulting in an uproarious game of cat and mouse where identities blur, and alliances are tested. Filled with explosive thrills and unexpected humor, "Face Off" takes you on a wild ride that keeps you guessing until the end. Buckle up and prepare for a face-swapping adventure like no other!
I want to hear from you! Have you seen any of there? What are some of your favorite action movies?
